Lost River Cooperage

Crafted in Saskatchewan, made with Canadian Oak. We help shape the flavour and story of every pour.

More Than a Barrel

At Lost River Cooperage, we are proud to revive the time-honored craft of barrel-making right here in the heart of Saskatchewan. We use sustainably sourced Canadian & European Oak to produce barrels of exceptional quality and character.

As new distilleries continue to emerge across the province, we’re here to support the growth of our local craft beverage industry. Whether you're aging whisky, wine, spirits, or beer, the barrel is more than just a vessel—it's a vital ingredient.

We invite local distillers, brewers, and winemakers to connect with us and experience the difference our barrels make

Our Barrels

 Why Canadian Oak?

We source our oak from the Great Lakes region of Ontario. Here’s why we believe Canadian white oak stands above the rest:

Tighter Growth Rings: The colder climate results in a shorter growing season, which produces tighter growth rings and a denser grain structure.

Exceptional Flavour Profile: This dense grain imparts a richer, more complex character to aged spirits and wines.

Unique Northern Edge: Grown at a latitude similar to France’s famed oak regions, Canadian oak delivers familiar depth with a distinctly northern twist.

Why Us?

We follow traditional cooperage methods, using oak fires to slowly toast and bend each barrel. Offcuts and scrap from the process are used to fuel the fire, keeping the process efficient and true to the material.

Each barrel is built by hand, supported by modern woodworking equipment where it improves accuracy and consistency. We’re not reinventing the barrel, but instead we are adapting the process to fit our shop, combining traditional techniques with custom-built tooling and the equipment we’ve developed over time.

The focus remains the same as in all of our work: quality, consistency, and attention to detail. Every barrel is built with the same hands-on approach that defines the rest of what we produce.

Barrel Reconditioning

Many distillers rely on skilled coopers to recondition their barrels—and for good reason. Over time, the interior char layer becomes saturated and less effective at contributing flavor. By carefully scraping back that layer to expose fresh wood, then retoasting, we rejuvenate your old barrels!
